What is translation? Translation is really getting it right across
and transferring information from a language
to another. Contrary to the opinion of some, a dictionary
is not all you need, even an electronic dictionary.
Were it sufficient to simply transpose words from
one language to another, we would be spared gems
like "Tehao Rechargeable Shaver RCCW-320: Smuggle
the razor blade (reference value around 400 g) on
your muscle vertically, then drag your skin and
shave back slowly," as reported by the ITI
Bulletin.
Better than the original? Your translation must read as well, if not better,
than the original document. And this is hardly surprising,
since it benefits from at least two heads: The original
writer and the specialist translator.
The British Government Export Web Site gives the following advice: In today’s competitive world, “information is power”. Accurate and timely
translations of incoming commercial and technical information for your business
will give you an “information cutting edge”
Your business should aim to communicate as effectively in overseas markets
as in domestic markets. If you do not, your competitors will.
Top quality incoming and outgoing international communications are a very
powerful tool. If handled efficiently, they will enhance your overseas markets –
and your business performance. If handled badly, mistranslation or
misinterpretation will not only undermine your image – they can cost you dearly!
A free-lance translator
or a large company? But why choose a free-lance translator like me,
instead of a large agency? The answer depends largely
on your needs. Translation companies and independent
translators perform two complementary roles:
If you need a large manual with charts, pictures and graphics to be
translated in 7 different languages maintaining the same identical format across
languages in a very short time, then contact a translation agency – a big
one at
that.
If you need a small or large document with or without charts, pictures and
graphics to be translated into Italian, you want to have feedback
and possibly improve the original language to make it more suitable for
your Italian target and reach a wider audience, have a chat
with me.
Quality above all In other words: If you want the personal touch, the close attention to detail, the care that sets hand-crafted items apart from mass-produced products,
you want to see a free-lance translator who will be able to talk with you,
incorporate your needs and your requirements, give you suggestions why a certain
sentence should be re-written or a diagram should be changed to match the target
audience (simple example: English electric plugs are wired differently from Italian
plugs).
This is what I will do for you:
- Provide an excellent technical translation service between English and
Italian.
- Organise the translation of the document in other languages (German, French,
Spanish, etc.) by other equally dedicated and reliable professionals.
- Organise the DTP of the document, if necessary.
If you have any questions, comments, want to
discuss a job, do not hesitate to contact
me without obligations.
All inquiries are generally answered within 24 hours.
